What race are you going to be?

I want to be a human, what about you guys and girls?

It would depend on how the races influence classes. I will be a ranger, and probably Sylvari.

Charr or Asura classes might be pretty cool

I'll most likely be a Charr, but may run a Norn depending on how race effects calss.

If there's gonna be a mesmer profession, definitely human (Canthan). Otherwise, lolcat charr.

I think I might try Asura first as I expect everyone else to jump in as a Sylvari. Besides, I like being slightly different. My biggest question is, however, are they going to do what Perfect World did and link certain professions to certain types of characters (i.e. - A healer can only be of the Sylvari race, a warrior is only Norn, etc)? I want to continue playing a healer as a primary but will I have to play as a certain race to do that?

I only wonder this because:
1.) All the Norn that we've seen thus far have all been warriors (not saying that there's no such thing as a Norn that's not an ele but we've just never seen it). It has also been made clear that although Norn may have friends they "hunt" with, they don't typically work in teams which to me, says the Norn are unlikely to study abilities of being a monk.
2.) One of the previews showed an Asura which appeared to be a Golemancer and all of the Golemancers which we've seen have been Asuran. We do know the Asura can definitely play as an ele courtesy of Vekk although we haven't been introduced to too many others, I am having a hard time seeing an Asuran as a warrior (consider what they say at the shrines about how they're so much smarter and that battles are won by intelligence and ingenuity ).

I know that this is supposed to take place in the future but there are just some things which don't seem possible to change to me. That's my 2 cents. I'm not sure how other people feel about this possibility.

All races will have the same professions!

I honestly hope they wont, for the reasons stated above.. I just dont see a Norn monking. I understand they cannot limit the profession choice to one or two, but it would be nice to have some sort of realism in them.

which ever race is best for ele, not sure i like the idea that theres four subtypes for each race though

I will probably be a Human, to start off with as a main character. Beat the game as a human hopefully then if i choose a different race i'll have fun with that. Can't wait. But i do like the Charr only b/c i think they can have the guns, not to sure about the guns(if all races can use them or not). But a Charr with a gun would be awesome!! That was going to be my first choice until i found out they are going to inculde the Human.

Norn have been paragons as well, but yes I agree with you, Asura do not have the physical strength to be warrior, which is why they use golems, much like mursaat and jade bows/hammers etc.
Humans and Charr are both flexible to the point of any profession, and should not really have profession skews, but Asura should be spell caster, and norn should be physical, and slyvari, well attuned to nature....

I am most likely gonna be either a human or a charr mainly, but i would play as them all to see what i liked most

It's a lore vs gameplay thing and where to draw the line. You would simply expect a Norn to crush an Asura in hand to hand combat. However since GW2 is 300 or whatever amount of years in the future, Asura warriors, for example, may be enhanced with some form of magical steroids or some other technology, like basically Illusionary Weaponary, but the entire class. I have no idea what I'm talking about, I am going to stop now. But basically the time gap should allow a "things change" clause to allow for gameplay issues.
